A British man was remanded in custody after he appeared in court today charged with the abduction and sexual assault of a three-year-old girl.
Craig Sweeney (24), of Newport, appeared before magistrates in Cardiff charged with kidnap and four counts of serious sexual assault.
He will appear before the city's crown court at a later date. No application for bail was made, a court spokesman said.
Police have said the girl was taken from her home in the Rumney area of Cardiff on Monday. She was found when the car in which she was travelling crashed in Wiltshire after a police chase in the early hours of Tuesday.
