London - The Liberal Democrat MP Mr Norman Baker hailed as a "landmark victory" yesterday his successful challenge against a blanket ban on the disclosure of any information contained in MI5's personal files, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Mr Baker was contesting a decision by former Home Secretary Mr Jack Straw to issue a Public Interest Immunity (PII) certificate preventing him from viewing any file that MI5 may have compiled on his activities. Mr Baker argued that MI5 had been relieved of any obligation to consider whether or not national security would be harmed if it agreed to his request.
