Fourteen Tesco supermarkets across Britain returned to normal trading today after they were closed by police yesterday following a series of threats.
Police in Hertfordshire, where Tesco has its headquarters, said the affected stores had returned to business as normal, after each of them had been searched.
"Inquiries to identify those involved in a series of threats to 14 Tesco stores yesterday continue today," Hertfordshire police said in a statement.
They did not say exactly why the stores had been closed, but said no one had been hurt. They did not believe the incidents were linked to extremism of any kind.
Tesco was not immediately available for a comment.
The Observernewspaper reported that the supermarket chain had received a series of bomb threats, quoting a worker in a shop next to Tesco's Barrhead store in Scotland.
Police said the closures affected stores in Lancashire, Suffolk, Dyfed Powys in Wales, Fife and Strathclyde in Scotland, Leicestershire, Humberside, West Mercia, West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and London.
