Remembrance Day ceremonies were today held across Northern Ireland for soldiers killed in two world wars and other conflicts around the globe including violence in Northern Ireland.

In Belfast the city's Lord Mayor Pat McCarthy of the nationalist SDLP led the commemoration. Mr McCarthy laid a wreath at the Cenotaph outside Belfast City Hall. Northern Ireland Office minister Maria Eagle and US Consul Dean Pittman also took part in the ceremony.

Members of the Royal British Legion also held commemorations and stood in silence in cities and towns.

Members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross Foundation were for the first time today taking part in the main national commemoration in London where the Queen laid the first wreath.
