A United Nations mediator said today he saw little chance of progress in talks between Serbs and ethnic Albanians over the fate of Kosovo, hinting the talks were as good as over.
"The prospect of progress in these talks is increasingly slim," UN deputy envoy Albert Rohan told reporters in Vienna.
"By talking alone we won't improve the situation. We can go on for another ten years and it won't change anything."
A senior Western diplomat said today that Mr Rohan's boss, UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari would tell major powers next week that talks were nearing the end of the line
