A man and his nephew were charged yesterday in connection with the murder of a man in a McDonald's restaurant in Belfast city centre last week.
Mr Anthony Hagans (38) from Ross Street, Belfast, was charged with murder and 20-year-old Mr Kevin Paul Hagans, of Falls Court, Belfast, was charged with causing an affray.
The murder victim was David Finn, aged 32, from Fortriver Parade in the Glencairn area of north Belfast. He died from a single knife wound to his heart.
Mr Anthony Hagans, whose head was bandaged when he appeared in the dock at Belfast Magistrates Court, was remanded in custody.
A bail application on behalf of his nephew was opposed by a prosecution lawyer who said the McDonald's restaurant at Castle Junction was packed with customers when the stabbing occurred last Friday afternoon and there was a risk of interference with witnesses.
Defence solicitor Mr Brendan Blaney said the nephew maintained he did not assault Mr Finn nor play any role other than to throw a chair when he perceived his uncle was being assaulted.
Describing the fatal stabbing as a "tragic incident" Mr Blaney said Mr Kevin Hagans had surrendered himself to police.
Mr Kevin Hagans was released on bail but warned by the Magistrate to stay out of central Belfast.
