The Chamber of Commerce of Ireland has called for the responsibility of all aspects of Irish transport policy to be put in the hands of one national authority and accountable to one Cabinet minister.
Mr Brendan Woods, chief executive of the Limerick Chamber of Commerce, making the announcement, said this was recommended in a policy paper being presented to the Minister for Public Enterprise, Ms O'Rourke.
He said that unless "radical measures are adopted to deal with Ireland's transport nightmare, our future competitiveness will be seriously threatened."
