Several hundred Technical Engineering and Electrical Union members who work for ESB are to be balloted at a meeting in Kilrush, Co Clare this evening.

The Polish workers at Moneypoint power station have not been paid since the beginning of September and face losing their jobs after the contractor they were employed by had its contract terminated by ESB.

In a statement today the TEEU declined to specify what form any action would take but said it could have immediate effect if talks with senior ESB management do not have a satisfactory outcome tomorrow morning.

The workers had been employed by polish company ZRE which was a sub contractor to Lentjes which has said it was cancelling the sub-contract with immediate effect.

ESB said Lentjes had informed it of the decision and that it was taken because of issues over ZRE's compliance with Irish labour and employment law.
