Unionist attempts to unseat Sinn Fein MP

An attempt to unseat a newly elected Sinn Fein MP has started in the High Court in Belfast

An attempt to unseat a newly elected Sinn Fein MP has started in the High Court in Belfast. Mr James Cooper, the Ulster Unionist candidate who lost by 53 votes to Ms Michelle Gildernew in Fermanagh-South Tyrone, is seeking to have the result overturned and a by-election called.

Mr Cooper says a polling station close to the Border at Garrison was forced to stay open beyond the 10 p.m. closing time by threat. He maintains that if invalid votes were disallowed he would now be the constituency MP. The case is not expected to go ahead before the end of August.
