Two of Ireland's largest unions, the ATGWU and SIPTU, have launched a joint initiative designed to increase union membership among Irish and non-national workers.

Announcing the initiative to coincide with May Day, the unions say the initiative will focus on providing co-operation and support to improve the quality of the working environment for workers.

Both unions intend to provide increased resources to assist Irish and non-national workers to organise in trade unions under the umbrella of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
