A fire has destroyed the old Cahill Print building on the East Wall Road, Dublin. Seven units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the blaze which broke out at about 2.30pm yesterday at the disused print works.
Firefighters had brought the flames under control by 6pm but not before more than two-thirds of the building had been destroyed. The source of the fire was not known.
Plans by Pierse Contracting Ltd to demolish the building and redevelop it for apartments and offices are under appeal by the East Wall Residents Association to An Bord Pleanála. The development, which was granted planning permission by Dublin City Council, consisted of three blocks of 177 apartments, terraced houses and duplexes as well as offices. The board had been due to issue its decision on the €120 million redevelopment of the site July.
