UPC Ireland achieved strong growth in telephone and broadband subscriptions in the third quarter of 2010, according to results published today.
The cable operator had a total of 762,700 subscribers by the end of the quarter, a 9.3 per cent rise compared to 697,800 for the same three-month period a year earlier.
The number of telephone subscribers rose 64 per cent to 87,200 from 53,000, while broadband subscriptions were up 37 per cent from 134,900 to 184,700 customers.
UPC Ireland also saw digital TV subscriptions rise by 11 per cent to 375,000 from 337,800.
Chief executive Robert Dunn said the company was seeing more customers moving to its triple-play bundle of television, internet and telephone. He added that the expansion of its fibre network was also driving consumer demand for its services.
Meanwhile, parent company Liberty Global swung to a third-quarter profit of $278.5 million or 99 cents a share, compared with a loss of $120.3 million or 45 cents a share for the same period a year earlier.
Revenue grew 16 per cent to $2.25 billion while operating margin rose to 19.9 per cent from 16 per cent.
