US actor Redford to do public interview in Dublin

Hollywood actor, filmmaker and environmental campaigner Robert Redford is to visit Dublin next week.

Hollywood actor, filmmaker and environmental campaigner Robert Redford is to visit Dublin next week.

The School of Drama, Film and Music at Trinity College is hosting Redford where he will take part in a public interview with Irish Timesfilm critic Michael Dwyer.

The 71-year-old American is best known for his roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Stingand All the President's Men.

He won his first Oscar as a director for the emotional family drama, Ordinary Peoplein 1980.

His other directorial credits include A River Runs Through Itand The Horse Whispererin the 1990s.

A supporter of independent film, he founded the Sundance Film Festival in 1985 which is seen as the premiere US showcase for new independent films.

In recent years Redford has campaigned on green issues and has been a critic of environmental policies of US president George Bush.
