US military commanders have asked for "more capabilities" in Iraq, the chairman of joint Chief of Staff said in Baghdad today.
The top US soldier in Iraq, Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez "has decided he wants more capability given the current security situation here in Iraq," said General Richard Myers.
"That capability will, as in the past, be provided to our commanders in the field," Myers said.
About 21,000 American soldiers due to have returned home from Iraq this month have been told they will remain in the country for another three months.

It was not immediately known if Myers was referring to these troops or additional deployments.
