US warplanes attacked an anti-aircraft artillery site in southern Iraq today, striking for the first time in the south since a raid on February 16th to knock out radars and command posts near Baghdad, the US military has said.

The US Central Command said the raid was in response to a recent Iraqi anti-aircraft artillery fire at aircraft patrolling a no-fly zone over southern Iraq.

"There were no coalition aircraft damaged, and all aircraft returned safely," the command said in a statement from its headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
