US Police are analysing evidence gathered from a search of California congressman Mr Gary Condit's apartment for clues to the disappearance of Washington intern Ms Chandra Levy.
Investigators entered Mr Condit's apartment early this morning and left carrying two bags of material.
"We can't talk about anything we may have recovered from there but we did complete (the search) last night," Washington Police Chief Charles Ramsey said.
"The evidence has to be analysed. It may or may not have any value in this case, but we were given the opportunity to conduct the search and we took advantage of it," Mr Ramsey said later in an interview with CNN.
Ramsey said police are prepared to give the 53-year-old Democratic congressman a lie-detector test and get samples of his DNA as they pressed the search for the missing intern.
Ms Levy, 24, from Mr Condit's home district of Modesto, California, has been missing for 11 weeks. Mr Condit initially denied being romantically involved with the Bureau of Prisons intern, and only recently admitted they had had a relationship.
Mr Ramsey said that for a polygraph test to be effectively administered, it would need to be "wide-ranging" but repeated that Mr Condit is not a suspect.
"There are no suspects because we have no crime but I do think that the reality is a lot of attention has been focused on the congressman (and) whether that's right or wrong remains to be seen," he added.
