US consumer prices rose 0.4 per cent in May while the core rate - excluding food and energy - increased 0.1 per cent, the Labor Department reported today.
The increase marked the largest gain in headline consumer price index (CPI) since January.
Over the past 12 months the index showed an increase of 3.6 per cent, or 2.5 per cent excluding food and energy costs, the report said.
