Westin Hotels, the American-based hoteliers, have confirmed that they are to open a five-star hotel at College Street in Dublin, writes Jack Fagan, Property Editor. Treasury Holdings are to begin construction work later this month on the £35 million hotel on the triangular site bounded by College Street, Fleet Street and Westmoreland Street.
Westin Hotels are part of Sharwood Hotels, the world's largest hotel group, which has hundreds of hotels, mainly in the United States, South America and the Far East. The group also controls the Sheraton chain of hotels.
Westin will be leasing the 180-bedroom Dublin hotel, which is due to open for business before Christmas 2000.
The European president of Westin Hotels, Mr Bob Cotter, will outline the company's plans for the hotel at a press conference in Dublin next Tuesday.
The Hilton Hotel group had originally agreed to operate the Dublin hotel but pulled out last year, partly due to a lengthy planning dispute.
