US planes hit 'pro-Zarqawi hideout' in Iraq

US warplanes struck a suspected hideout for followers of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Falluja today.

US warplanes struck a suspected hideout for followers of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Falluja today.

They destroyed the building and killed an unknown number of militants, the US military said, in what it termed a "Zarqawi terrorist site" in southern Falluja.

"Several credible intelligence sources confirmed that members of the terrorist group were operating at the site at the time of the strike," the military said.

It said it had specifically struck rising members of Zarqawi's organisation, which has claimed responsibility for several of the bloodiest attacks in Iraq over the past year, including the beheading of several foreign hostages.
