Havana - The United States yesterday resumed direct flights to Cuba, suspended two years ago after Cuban forces shot down two small planes, killing four members of a US-based anti-communist group. The resumption follows a request made by Pope John Paul II during his January visit to Cuba.
Some 200 people greeted the 200-seat jet flown from Miami by ABC Charters, which plans to fly five times a week to Cuba. The US allows only Cubans, their US-born children, and others living in their households to fly to Cuba.
