An American soldier died of gunshot wounds after enemy forces fired on a patrol unit in eastern Afghanistan early today, the US military said.
"One (US serviceman) was killed and two wounded in three separate incidents in the last 24 hours," Lieutenant Tina Krokse, a spokeswoman for the US military in Afghanistan, told Reuters.
"In the first incident a US soldier died from gunshot wounds after his unit came under fire from enemy forces in eastern Afghanistan," she said.
Two US soldiers and their Afghan interpreter were wounded on Tuesday when a grenade was thrown into a jeep carrying them in Kabul's city centre. On Thursday, three Afghans, including the attacker, were killed in a grenade attack on international peacekeepers in the capital Kabul.
