One US soldier was killed and one was wounded when the helicopter he was travlling in waht shot down near the town of Falluja, west of Baghdad, today, according to the US military.
A US army spokeswoman said the helicopter, an OH-58 observation chopper, came down around 12:50 p.m. local time.
It was confirmed this afternoon that it had been shot down by Iraqi guerrillas.
Several US helicopters have been shot down in recent months. In November three Black Hawk utility helicopters and a Chinook transporter were shot down, killing a total of 39 US soldiers.
