Moscow - Russia's FSB domestic security police said yesterday there were no grounds for spying charges against a US citizen held for drugs offences, although they had earlier said he had links to intelligence services.
The FSB, a successor to domestic directorates of the Soviet KGB, announced on Tuesday that Mr John Tobbin was arrested at the start of February on drugs charges in the southern Russian town of Voronezh. But it also said Mr Tobbin had attended US military institutes and was in Russia training for intelligence work.
