Manchester United's record signing Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed how Inter Milan striker Ronaldo helped him through his injury nightmare.
The Dutchman has finally completed his stg£19million dream move to Old Trafford after the move broke down a year ago because of a failed medical, followed by a knee ligament injury.
But the Brazilian, himself a former PSV Eindhoven player, called van Nistelrooy to urge him to recover so he could pursue his dream move.
Ronaldo was also out with a serious knee injury but his call helped the 24-year-old.
"Ronaldo's injury was slightly different but he really supported me," said van Nistelrooy.
"As soon as he heard I was injured he contacted me and that was fantastic. We spoke several times."
Despite the price tag van Nistelrooy does not feel under pressure.
"People talk about pressure but I don't feel it. I was only 20 when my stg£4.5million transfer to PSV from Heerenveen broke the Dutch record. There were questions about me from the first day but I was OK and the goals came."
