Terry Venables is "thinking about" his future as Leeds manager after the club agreed to sell Jonathan Woodgate to Newcastle.
The former England boss had threatened to consider his position if Leeds accepted a bid for Woodgate. The club duly acceded to a £9 million bid from Newcastle for Woodgate just hours after Robbie Fowler left Elland Road for Manchester City in a £6 million deal.
Although Venables will still be in charge for Leeds' Premiership trip to Everton tomorrow, he would not commit himself beyond that point at a lunchtime press conference today.
"I haven't said I am going to stay," said Venables. "It's an assumption that everyone has made. I'm clearly thinking about my future position - but it could mean either [staying or going].
"I don't want to make a knee-jerk reaction. We've got a game tomorrow, and that's the most important thing in my mind. I think it's fair not to expect me to make such a fast decision when this has been dropped on me," he said.
"I don't want to inflame a situation which is already very raw - but I was assured if Fowler went that Jonathan Woodgate wouldn't go".
