London - A senior Anglican clergyman who described the Church of England as "light years" out of date defended his views yesterday.
Archdeacon Peter Broadbent (46) of Northolt in London made the claim in a memo to the General Synod's policy committee after a "tedious" Synod meeting last November. The memo described the church as "culturally light years behind the rest of society". "There may be some people who feel criticised but we have to have this debate," Mr Broadbent said. "I am only voicing what many of us feel."
