Officials have not yet released a formal list of victims. However, survivors, friends, family and local newspapers have begun naming the dead.

Ryan Clark(22), known as "Stack" on campus, was a twin from Martinez, a small town outside Augusta, Georgia. He was killed at the West Ambler Johnston Hall - the scene of the first shootings.

Emily Hilscher(19) from Woodville, Virginia. A freshman in Animal and Poultry Sciences, she was killed in the first round of shooting.

Prof Kevin Granata, a professor of engineering science and mechanics, served in the military and researched muscle and reflex response and robotics at Virginia Tech.

GV Loganathan(51) was a professor in civil and environmental engineering. Born in the southern Indian city of Chennai, he won several awards for excellence in teaching.

Christopher James Bishop(35) was a "personable" instructor of German. He wore his hair long, rode his bike to campus, and worked with his wife in the foreign languages department.

Prof Liviu Librescu(76) survived the Holocaust and was known internationally for his research in aeronautical engineering.

Ross Alameddine(20) of Saugus, Massachusetts, was an English major who was reportedly gunned down in French class.

Daniel Perez Cueva(21) was a student from Peru studying international relations.

Mary Karen Read(19) was born in South Korea into an air force family. She settled in the northern Virginia suburb of Annandale.

Caitlin Hammaren(19) of Westtown, New York, was majoring in international studies and French.

Maxine Turnercame from Vienna, Virginia, and was a senior studying chemical engineering

Henry Leewas from Roanoke and was studying computer engineering.

Juan Ortizwas a graduate student in civil engineering.

Jarrett Lane Narrows, a senior from Virginia, was studying civil engineering.

Matt La Portefrom New Jersey was a freshman in university studies.

Leslie Shermanwas a sophomore in history and international studies

Reema Samahafrom Centreville, Virginia, was a freshman.
