A video showing several Orangemen walking on the disputed Garvaghy Road in defiance of the Parades Commission ruling banning the Drumcree Orange parade has been described as "a very dangerous PR stunt which will only heighten tensions in Portadown" by a spokesperson for the Garvaghy Road Residents' Coalition.
The video clip, which was released by a DUP Assembly member, Mr Paul Berry, yesterday clearly shows at least eight men wearing Orange Order regalia and carrying a single Union Jack flag marching down a section of the contentious Garvaghy Road in the early hours of December 30th last year.
Its release has clearly angered the residents' association which has accused Mr Berry of unnecessarily raising tensions in the area.
A spokesperson for the residents' association said it was likely that the Orangemen and their video camera operator "arrived in two cars, walked a few yard, then jumped into their cars and left".
However, last night Mr Berry, said the video "was as sound as a bell".
Meanwhile, dissident Orangemen in the Drumcree protest have said they intend to oust the leadership of Portadown District at its next meeting because of its continued participation in secret talks to resolve the 15-month parade impasse.
Over the past few weeks there has been growing frustration within Portadown District's rank-and-file about the "lack of information" on negotiations on the parade.
Angry Orangemen are now accusing their leadership of deliberately keeping them in the dark over recent discussions with the British government, the North's First Minister, Mr David Trimble, and senior representatives of the Orange Order's Grand Lodge.
