Glasgow - Hundreds of people yesterday attended a vigil for a murdered asylum seeker, Mr Firsat Yildiz, as detectives continued the hunt for his killers. Earlier, race campaigners and civic leaders met to discuss the treatment of immigrants in Glasgow after the killing in the Sighthill area at the weekend.
Council leaders appealed for calm and said they were doing everything possible to secure the safety of asylum seekers in Scotland's biggest city. Police, who are looking for two white men in connection with the death of Mr Yildiz (22), a Turkish Kurd, have been keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack. The city's refugee community believes the killing was racially motivated.
