Petrol bomb have been thrown during attacks at a north Belfast interface.

Local parish priest Fr Aidan Troy said devices had been hurled at a house in the Protestant Twaddell Avenue by youths in the nationalist Ardoyne.

Bricks and bottles were thrown by rival gangs, and a police vehicle was attacked.

A man was found bludgeoned to death in the area yesterday, possibly by dissident republicans, and two houses have recently been fired on.

"This is unacceptable to us. We have families here who are absolutely devastated by these murders," Fr Troy said. "They have funerals to prepare for and while we can talk about society's ills and the Assembly that is not ranking with them. I would appeal for an end to this."

There has been tension since an attack on two houses earlier this month in which shots were fired.

Another man, in his 30s, was shot dead near a GAA club four miles away in west Belfast's Falls Road. A third man survived a west Belfast shooting.
