Jakarta - Violence spread as Indonesia yesterday braced itself for another round of price rises and more economic turmoil in the critical period leading up to next month's presidential election. Nervous customers continued to clear supermarket shelves in Jakarta and a small demonstration against price rises swelled to hundreds of people. Hundreds of terrified ethnic Chinese residents fled their homes to take sanctuary at police and military installations in the eastern city of Ende after mobs angered by soaring prices looted and set fire to dozens of shops.
