Judge Alison Lindsay was shown around the National Centre for Hereditary Coagulation Disorders at St James's Hospital, Dublin by the centre's director, Dr Owen Smith, who gave evidence to the Lindsay tribunal in April.

The tribunal chairwoman examined improvements, which have been made since the HIV and hepatitis C infection tragedies of the 1980s.

Also in attendance were: Prof Ian Temperley, Dr Smith's predecessor; Dr Emer Lawlor, deputy medical director of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service; and the administrator of the Irish Haemophilia Society, Ms Rosemary Daly. The chairwoman was accompanied on the 45-minute tour by tribunal counsel, Mr John Finlay SC.
