A surge in tourists from Europe saw the number of overseas visitors to Ireland last October increase by 33,400 compared with the same period the previous year.
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office this morning showed that there were 644,500 overseas trips to Ireland.
During the same month there were 591,700 trips by Irish residents overseas, an increase of 112,700 on the same period the previous year.
A detailed analysis of where visitors to Ireland are coming from shows that the number of visitors from Britain decreased by 2,700 last October compared with the same month the previous year.
Over the same period the number of visitors from Other European countries increased by 26,400.
The important north American market saw visitor numbers grow by 7,300.
