French media group Vivendi Universal has said it has closed the sale of Seagram's wines and spirits businesses to Diageo and Pernod Ricard.
In a statement today, Vivendi said that it received $8.1 billion in cash for the businesses, which would be used to pay back debt and for "general corporate purposes".
US anti-trust authorities cleared the sale on Wednesday, after Diageo agreed to sell its Malibu rum brand to resolve anti-trust concerns.
