TMT sector stock Vodafone today fell 7-3/4 on the FTSE today, to 220 pence, the level at which Eircom can pull out of the euro 4.5 billion sale of its mobile arm eircell.
Vodafone stock came under pressure yesterday following the decision by Hutchinson Whampoa, the Hong Kong conglomerate, to sell half its 2.3 per cent stake in the mobile phone giant.
Vodafone Pacific is also considering selling its own mobile network in a bid to satisfy Australian Competition and Consumer (ACCC) concerns about its proposed purchase of the wireless operations of Cable & Wireless Optus.
