More Scottish hospitals have been hit by a viral infection that has closed wards and cancelled operations, it emerged today.
As health chiefs in Glasgow continued to struggle to contain the outbreak, staff and patients at four other Scottish hospitals were affected. A school has reported a similar virus.
Worst hit was the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow where 254 people have contracted the winter-vomiting bug.
It emerged last night that wards at Forth Valley Acute Hospitals NHS Trust have also been closed where the bug has struck 56 people in total, of whom around half were patients.
Two wards were shut at Stirling Royal Infirmary and one at Falkirk Royal Infirmary during the outbreak, and four operations were cancelled in total.
The virus has also hit Borders General Hospital in Melrose, Drumchapel Hospital and the Western Infirmary in Glasgow, and Ashludie Hospital in Monifieth.
Schools in Scotland have also been hit by a similar virus. Dundee City Council said the number of pupils absent from a school hit by the infection was now 70, with a member of staff also off.
The figure is down from the 110 recorded sick at Forthill Primary School, which has a roll of 467, on Monday, and 128 on Friday.
