Australia won a thrilling third test 29-23 today to win the series against the British and Irish Lions 2-1, their first series win over the tourists.
Australia, who lost the first test but levelled the series in Melbourne last week, led 16-13 at halftime after Daniel Herbert's try cancelled out Jason Robinson's opener for the Lions, Burke having adding the rest of the points with his boot.
Jonny Wilkinson put the Lions ahead with a try two minutes into the second half, Herbert again replying, and the sides were level at 23-all with 20 minutes of the series remaining.
Burke, earning his 50th cap, edged the Wallabies into a 26-23 lead in the 69th minute and after more sustained pressure he slotted again two minutes from time.
The Lions made one final push but lock Justin Harrison capped a dream debut by stealing a lineout throw to secure the match and the series.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard presented the trophy to Australia captain John Eales, who said: "It's without a doubt one of the greatest series that rugby followers have ever seen and it was helped by the great support from the fans.
Eales gave special praise to Harrison, Burke and coach Rod Macqueen, who now stands down.
The outgoing coach added: "I really respected the Lions, it's all about respect and they are a great team.
"With the Wallabies its just been great to be associated with such a fine group of people."
Lions captain Martin Johnson had his say in the aftermath congratulated the hosts on a fine series victory.
"It was a tremendous series, three great games of rugby and it came down the last game.
"We've got no excuses, Australia deserved to win it.
"Its been a long hard tour and we came up just short. I'm sorry we didn't win but the players can be proud of themselves."
