Munster rugby supporters in Fermoy, Co Cork, are offering Leinster fans a night of Cork hospitality if they sell them tickets for the Heineken European Cup final at face value.
Many Leinster fans bought tickets for the final in Cardiff earlier this year in the expectation that their team would make the final. Despite having their dreams dashed by Munster just over a week ago, the Leinster supporters are being asked to allow members of the Fermoy Rugby Club the opportunity to attend the final against Biarritz on May 20th.
In return for surrendering their tickets at face value, any Leinster supporter will be offered one night in the Abbeyville House Hotel in Fermoy, a day's salmon fishing on the River Blackwater and lunch in the Poacher's Lodge restaurant. "There's a huge demand for tickets in Fermoy, we got 28 and we're looking for 200, so it's a fair famine," club president Justin McCarthy said.
The club is appealing to genuine fans who bought their tickets before knowing the result of the semi-final and do not want to sell to touts. The face value of tickets ranges from £25 to £60 but they were going for up to €450 a pair online on eBay last night. "The people we're appealing to are genuine people who wouldn't even dream of selling to a tout. People who don't like fishing can play golf or have a facial or a manicure or a pedicure or whatever other cure they want, but we're making a genuine appeal to people to come forward." The club can be contacted at The Showgrounds, Dublin Road, Fermoy Co Cork.
