Beijing - China yesterday issued a veiled warning to the US President, Mr Clinton, against meeting the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader now in the US. It also criticised the Dalai Lama, describing the devout Buddhist as an insincere propagandist.
Beijing's twin blasts dampened expectations that the Dalai Lama's visit to the US would lead to a breakthrough with Beijing. "We urge US leaders against meeting with the Dalai Lama so as not to bring harm to Sino-US relations," said a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhu Bangzao.
