Children travelling to Europe this summer should be vaccinated against measles following a widespread outbreak of the condition on the continent, the head of the HSE National Immunisation Office has said.

Dr Brenda Corcoran said there was an increased risk to children and teenagers who were not vaccinated during the summer because there was increased travel between Europe and Ireland.

“Parents should speak with their GP and get the vaccine for their child if needed. The vaccine is free,” she said.
