A judge today issued a warrant for the arrest of former boxer Chris Eubank after he failed to turn up in court over an unlawful "truck" protest.
Eubank was due to appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in relation to an attempt to park his seven-tonne American truck outside Downing Street in protest over policy in Iraq.
In his absence, District Judge Snow fined Eubank £500 over the incident and ordered him to pay £365 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. He has 14 days to pay the fine.
The 41-year-old Brighton-based celebrity was arrested in May and charged under sections of the Serious and Organised Crime Act relating to the staging of a unlawful demonstration in a designated area.
During the truck demo, Eubank emblazoned the 32ft vehicle with a message to Gordon Brown calling on him to withdraw troops from Iraq.
It read: "Mr Brown, you know that the policy in Iraq cannot succeed. Democracy cannot be exported with a gun. You can be the great leader and the great peace maker."
A smaller sign read: "This is not a protest."
Mel Goldberg, Mr Eubank's agent, said today that his client was overseas and would not be back for a few days. He added: "He will come back and face the music."
