The water supply in the Newport, Birdhill and Ballina areas of north Tipperary was given the all-clear yesterday by the Mid-Western Health Board.
Tipperary North Riding County Council, which had been investigating a pollution incident, said that the contamination in a tributary of the Mulcair river was agriculture related. There was no evidence, it said, of a link between a pollution incident in the area two weeks ago and the present occurrence, which was discovered on Sunday.
