Waterford Stanley, the cast-iron range cooker and stove manufacturer announced today it will lay off 30 workers as part of a rationalisation plan.
The job losses - confirmed to workers at a general meeting at a hotel in the city this afternoon - are being blamed on a combination of the strengthening euro, increased labour, energy and insurance costs, and what the company says are restrictive work practices.
Waterford Stanley currently employs 250 people, 160 of them in the manufacturing plant at Bilberry in Waterford where the job losses are concentrated.
