MINISTER FOR the Environment John Gormley has approved €8.6 million for a water and sewerage scheme for the village of Waterville in Co Kerry.
Mr Gormley said, given the importance of the scheme for Waterville, he would be asking Kerry County Council to proceed with construction in the coastal village at the earliest possible date.
Huge holiday home development has taken place in the past decade but there had been no adequate water or sewerage system. Last year businesses threatened to withhold water rates unless the supply could be improved.
The work on the design, build and operate contract awarded to Bowen Consortium will include an upgrading of the existing water treatment works, a new intake and pumping station, and a new waste-water treatment plant to replace the town centre septic tank.
