Australian batsman Mark Waugh has been cleared by the Australian Cricket Board of match-fixing allegations made by an Indian bookmaker.

ACB special investigator Greg Melick announced claims by Mukesh Gupta, the Indian bookmaker at the centre of the match-fixing row, had "not been supported by evidence".

Gupta had alleged to Indian police that Waugh was paid £6,500 in 1994 for information about the Australian team.

"The investigation has been unable to unearth any credible evidence to support Mr Gupta or any evidence to contradict Mark Waugh," Melick told a press conference.
