Motorists are this evening being warned to take extra care on the roads due to the severe weather conditions.
All motorists are advised to take extra care and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and also for fallen debris. Drivers of high sided vehicles should pay particular attention when driving on high ground or exposed roads. AA Roadwatch also advises motorists to have their dipped headlights on as visability is very poor.
There were severe weather conditions in the in the west and northwest today. It was extremely windy and very wet with strong to gale force southerly winds gusting 100 to 120 km/h and with some local spot flooding also.
Winds are expected to moderate in western areas later this evening and the rain will clear these areas by around nightfall or so. However, heavy showers are expeted to affect some western areas as they come in from the Atlantic tonight following a clear spell.
It will be very windy and very wet in the Eastern half of the Country for a time tonight. But the heavy rain and strong winds will clear away into the Irish Sea as the night progresses.
