Drivers in Dublin should be wary of using the Ballymun Road as a short cut from the M50 to the airport this weekend as new roadworks will reduce traffic to a single lane at times. Long delays are expected. Elsewhere on the M50, the sliplane has been opened to the Tallaght Bypass.
Major road reconstruction works in Killiney mean a one-way system is in place on Church Road, with northbound traffic being diverted. Gracepark Road will be closed to traffic both ways between Griffith Avenue and Richmond Road. Drivers should travel via Fairview Strand into Philipsburgh Avenue on Griffith Avenue instead.
Strand Road in Dublin 4 will be closed inbound from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. each day between the Merrion Gates and Newgrove Avenue.
The good news is that the new toll roads at Westlink Toll Bridge are greatly improving traffic flow and a new third lane has opened on the Naas Road going outbound between Newlands Cross and Saggart.
The old Naas road from Main Street, Rathcoole, to Beechwood Lawns is temporarily closed, while roadworks in Leixlip Village mean there is single-lane traffic on the road from Leixlip into Maynooth.
Delays can also be expected heading southbound on the N11 as roadworks are under way in Kilmacanogue Village.
Traffic will be slow on the Limerick-Foynes road as watermain works are taking place in Askeaton.
Meanwhile, the Limerick-Tulla road is closed between Sixmilebridge and Cratloe Cross for drainage works, with diversions via Hurlers Cross and Bunratty.
In Cork, roadworks started yesterday at Rochestown on the southern carriageway of the South Ring Road-Carrigaline road. The construction of the Bloomfield Interchange junction will force the reduction of traffic to a single lane.
Temporary lights will be in Place on the Powerstown section of the N24 because of major works on the Clonmel inner relief road.
Further south, Wexford Bridge is closed for major reconstruction and repairs.
