Extra Dart services are being provided from this weekend to cater for Christmas shoppers in Dublin. Tomorrow, there will be a 50 per cent increase in DART capacity, with extra carriages added to trains from 10 a.m. to midday, and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Sunday, trains will operate every 10 minutes between midday and 2 p.m., and 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Sunday service normally operates every 20 minutes.
There will also be extra trains on the Dublin/Waterford and Dublin/ Cork routes.
On Sunday, there will be disruption on the rail service between Rosslare and Dublin due to engineering work between Bray and Greystones. A bus transfer will operate between Connolly Station in Dublin and Greystones.
On the roads, AA Roadwatch warns of delays in Lucan village for the next two weeks because of the Lucan Village Improvement Scheme.
Other traffic disruptions in Dublin include roadworks on the Ballymun Road north of the M50. There will be single-line traffic only, with long delays expected over the next few weeks.
A new traffic layout is in place on the Naas Road, outbound, between Aermotive and the Poitin Stil. Traffic is reduced to a single lane and long delays are inevitable.
The construction of the Saggart/ Rathcoole interchange is causing major disruption and will continue to do so for about a year.
In Co Kildare, there will be roadworks in Leixlip village.
In Cork, roadworks are in place at Rochestown on the southern carriageway of the South Ring Road/ Carrigaline Road. Single-lane traffic will facilitate the construction of the Bloomfield interchange junction.
The eastbound carriageway of the Athlone bypass will have only single-lane traffic, with temporary diversions at interchanges, for the next six months. Care needs to be taken as there are no road markings.
Delays are to be expected on the Limerick to Foynes Road at Askeaton. In Limerick city, Sexton Street north has a diversion in place for eastbound traffic.
