Record-breaking passenger numbers will pass through Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports over the Easter weekend, according to Aer Rianta traffic figures. Over 18,000 passengers are expected through Cork airport, with 29,500 expected at Shannon while Dublin airport expects to handle 178,000 between April 1st and 5th.
Ryanair expects to carry more than 130,000 passengers through Dublin and the regional airports. Aer Lingus also expects more than 130,000, with over 45,000 of those travelling between Dublin and London Heathrow.
Stena Line expects 52,000 passengers and 10,000 cars on its high-speed service between Dun Laoghaire and Holyhead, and ferry service between Dublin/Holyhead, and Rosslare/ Fishguard.
Irish Ferries expects 34,000 passengers and 9,000 vehicles on its Dublin and Rosslare to Britain routes and 5,000 passengers and 1,000 vehicles on its Rosslare to France route. Irish Rail says it will carry 250,000 passengers on intercity trains over the holiday and will run 30 special trains. The Dublin to Tralee trains scheduled for 0905, today, tomorrow, and Monday are running 20 minutes ahead of schedule, leaving Hueston at 08.45.
A Saturday schedule will apply to the DART and outer suburban lines today. A Sunday service will operate on the DART on Easter Monday; there will be no outer suburban service.
Bus Eireann expects to carry 100,000 passengers with a generally normal service operating today. Eireann offices. concerned. Weekday services will operate tomorrow with the exception of the 0800 Donegal/Dublin and the 1015 Cavan/Dublin services, which have been cancelled. Normal Sunday services will operate on Easter Sunday, with the exception of those catering for returning weekenders.
Road Works
Roadworks will continue on Charlemont Street for the next four weeks with severe delays during morning and evening peaks. Roadworks also continue at the New Nangor Road in Clondalkin at the Grange Castle Golf Club. Work will be carried out in Blackhall Place from its junction with North King Street to Blackhall Street between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Bord Gais continues work on Botanic Avenue and Clonliffe Road with temporary lights in place and long delays expected. Henry Street/Mary Street will be closed until November, while the eastbound lane of the North Wall Quay will be closed for the next few weeks between 8 p.m. and midnight and 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekends.
Strand Road at the Merrion level crossing will be closed over the Easter weekend.
Meath
Delays on the N3 north of Navan are expected. Temporary lights are in place.
Westmeath
Ongoing resurfacing work will disrupt traffic on the N4 east of Rathowen village.
Roadworks at Kildarvan at the Carlow/Wexford border on the road between Carlow and Bunclody will continue for several weeks.
Kildare
Traffic on Main Street, Kilcullen will be disrupted. Delays expected until May.
Temporary lights on the N2 through Collon are expected to cause delays for the next two weeks.
Wicklow
A roundabout is being constructed on the N11 at Ashford.
Limerick
Access to Sir Harry's Mall from Athlunkard Street is limited to business and residential traffic.
Cork
Traffic diverted from Lancaster Quay due to bridge construction work at the junction of Little Hanover Street and Woods Street.
Leitrim
Speed restrictions are in operation on the N16 Sligo/Enniskillen roundabout four miles west of Manorhamilton. These will continue until June as roadworks are under way.
Waterford
Diversions are in place at Racecourse Hill in Tramore.
