Arsene Wenger denied reports today he is about to leave Premiership giants Arsenal to become coach of Spanish giants Barcelona.
The 51-year-old Frenchman, who looked shellshocked as leaders Manchester United thrashed the Gunners 6-1 last Sunday to open up a 16-point gap on them in the Premiership, insists he is staying at Highbury.
"I have a contract until the end of the 2002-2003 season," he said. "I have never broken a contract and I have no intention of doing so now. I want to do well at Arsenal. That is my worry where work is concerned.
"What I do when my contract is finished is not decided. Then, I don't know. Maybe I will be here for much longer. You can't avoid the kind of speculation linking me with Barcelona. I suppose you could say it is almost a compliment," he added.
"But it can give the impression I am not committed to the club and I want to say that I want to do well at Arsenal, and make the team even stronger." AFP
